Frequently Asked Questions

All the answers to your questions about Mizu products, installation, compatibility, and orders.

1

Les produits Mizu

What is the difference between a bidet attachment and a Japanese toilet seat?

The Mizu Essential / Onzen bidet is a Japanese-style toilet attachment that fits beneath your existing toilet seat using the included fixings. It operates without electricity, making it the simplest and most affordable option.

The Mizu Zen / Pro Japanese toilet seat is a complete wash seat that replaces your existing toilet seat. It features front and rear cleansing jets, as well as a quiet soft-close function. The Zen model operates without electricity, while the Pro model requires a power outlet for its heated water, heated seat, and warm-air drying functions.

Do Mizu products require electricity?

The Mizu Essential (cold water), Mizu Onzen (hot and cold water), and Mizu Zen toilet seat do not require any electricity. They operate solely using the pressure from your water supply.

The Mizu Pro toilet seat requires a dedicated grounded power outlet compliant with NF C 15-100 standards, located within 1.20 metres of the toilet.

How is the water propelled?

The water is propelled by the natural pressure of your water supply through the T-adapter fitted to your toilet’s shut-off valve. No pump or motor is required for the non-electric models.

The ideal water pressure is between 1.5 and 3 bar, which is standard for domestic water systems in France.

What temperature is the water?

The Mizu Onzen connects to both the cold and hot water supply, using a second T-adapter installed beneath the washbasin, allowing you to adjust the water to a comfortable warm temperature.

The Mizu Pro toilet seat features an integrated water heater, with an adjustable temperature ranging from 35°C to 40°C.

How do I dry myself after use?

For the Essential, Onzen, and Zen models, a few sheets of toilet paper or a small dedicated towel are enough, reducing toilet paper use by around 80%.

The Mizu Pro toilet seat features an integrated warm-air dryer for a fully paperless experience.

Does the toilet flush continue to work normally?

Yes, without any change. The T-adapter diverts part of the water supply to the bidet or toilet seat nozzle, while the toilet cistern remains fully operational. The two water circuits are completely independent.

2

Compatibilité

Is my toilet compatible with Mizu products?

Mizu products are compatible with the vast majority of toilets with an exposed cistern.

Please check the following:

  • 3/8-inch water inlet thread, which is the most common size — the adapter is included in the kit
  • An accessible shut-off valve behind or below the cistern
  • For toilet seats: mounting-hole spacing between 14 and 20 cm, with at least 10 cm between the wall and the toilet bowl
  • For electric toilet seats: a grounded power outlet within 1.20 metres

If you are unsure, send us a photo of your toilet and shut-off valve. We will check compatibility for you before you place your order.

Compatible with a wall-hung toilet?

Wall-hung toilets with a concealed cistern are more complex to connect, as the water supply is generally not directly accessible.

If your washbasin is nearby, it may be possible to connect the Mizu Onzen to the washbasin’s hot water supply. Contact us so we can assess your installation.

What should I do if I don’t have a power outlet near the toilet?

For Mizu electric toilet seats, a dedicated grounded power outlet located within 1.20 metres of the toilet is required.

If you do not have one, you have two options:

  • Have an electrician install a suitable outlet
  • Choose the Mizu Essential, Onzen, or Zen model, none of which requires electricity
Are all toilet brands compatible?

Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Mizu products are compatible with Porcher, Jacob Delafon, Roca, Geberit, Duravit, Ideal Standard, Vitra, and most toilet brands sold in France and across Europe.

The standard 3/8-inch connection is widely used in France and throughout continental Europe. If your installation uses a different connection size, a simple additional adapter is usually all that is needed to install the product.

Installation

Do I need a plumber?

No. Installing Mizu products does not require any plumbing experience. All components, including the T-adapter and hoses, screw into place by hand, with an adjustable spanner only needed for the final tightening. No soldering, drilling, or major work is required.

For electric toilet seats, an electrician may only be necessary if you do not already have a nearby grounded power outlet.

How long does installation take?

Mizu Essential Bidet and Mizu Zen Toilet Seat (cold water): approximately 10 minutes

Mizu Onzen Bidet and Mizu Pro Toilet Seat (hot and cold water): approximately 10 to 15 minutes

The illustrated instructions included with each kit guide you through the installation step by step. A detailed installation guide is also available on our website.

Is the installation reversible?

Yes, completely. No permanent changes are made to your plumbing or toilet.

Removal takes around five minutes: disconnect the T-adapter, reconnect the original hose, and reinstall your previous toilet seat. Your toilet is restored to its original condition without leaving any trace.

What should I do if there is a leak after installation?

Immediately turn off the water supply at the shut-off valve. Dry the area and identify the exact source of the leak, then:

  • Unscrew the affected connection
  • Check that the rubber washer is correctly centred in its housing
  • Wrap 3 to 4 turns of PTFE tape, included in the kit, around the thread
  • Screw the connection back on firmly by hand, then tighten it by an additional half-turn with a spanner

If the leak persists, contact us and we will help you find a solution.

Can I easily remove the toilet seat for cleaning?

Yes. All Mizu toilet seats feature a quick-release system: a button on the mounting plate allows you to detach the seat in seconds for thorough cleaning of the toilet bowl. Reattaching it is just as quick.

4

Hygiène & entretien

Is a bidet really more hygienic than toilet paper?

Yes. Toilet paper wipes the skin without cleaning it thoroughly, which can leave residue, cause irritation, and potentially contribute to infections.

A bidet’s targeted water jet cleans by rinsing away residue, in the same way you would wash any other part of your body with running water.

It is particularly suitable for people with haemorrhoids or sensitive skin, and for use after childbirth.

Are the nozzles hygienic, and how should I clean them?

Mizu nozzles feature a self-cleaning function and are automatically rinsed before and after each use.

For monthly maintenance, soaking the nozzle tips in white vinegar for 10 minutes helps remove limescale from the spray openings. The toilet seats can be cleaned with a standard household cleaner. Avoid harsh products such as concentrated bleach or strong acids.

Is hard water a problem?

In hard-water areas, limescale may gradually build up around the nozzle openings after several months.

A monthly cleaning with white vinegar is usually sufficient to remove these deposits and maintain optimal water flow. The washers included in the kit also make it easy to replace common wear parts when necessary.

Is the bidet suitable for women, children, and older people?

Yes. Mizu products are designed for users of all ages and needs.

Women particularly appreciate the front wash function for intimate hygiene, including during menstruation and pregnancy. For older people or those with reduced mobility, a bidet can improve independence, comfort, and personal hygiene.

For children, the adjustable water pressure allows suitable use from around 4 to 5 years old, with adult supervision.

5

Écologie

Does using a bidet consume more water, and how is it environmentally friendly?

Producing a single roll of toilet paper requires an average of 140 to 180 litres of water, including paper pulp production, bleaching, and transport. Using a Mizu bidet consumes approximately 0.5 to 1 litre of water per use.

By reducing your toilet paper consumption by around 80%, the overall water footprint is significantly lower, while also reducing waste and the demand for wood pulp.

How much toilet paper can you actually save?

By using the bidet for primary cleansing and only a few sheets of toilet paper for drying, users typically reduce their toilet paper consumption by 70% to 90%.

Over the course of a year, this can save several dozen rolls per person, resulting in immediate environmental and financial benefits.
